Travel Notice: Lærdal Tunnel to Close at Night from September 2026

The Lærdal tunnel is the world’s longest road tunnel and runs for 24,5 km.

Visiting Lindstrøm Hotel during the tunnel upgrades.

The Lærdal Tunnel, the longest road tunnel in the world, is scheduled for major safety upgrades from September 2026 to 2029. During this period, the tunnel will be closed at night from 18:00 to 06:00.

This may seem challenging if you are travelling in the area, but here is the good news:

Who Will Be Affected?

The night-time closure applies only to travellers driving between Aurland/Flåm and Lærdal, or to those arriving from Bergen late in the evening.

If your planned route includes the tunnel after 18:00, you will need to adjust your travel plans.

Guests arriving from Oslo, Filefjell or Sogndal will not be affected, as the route to Lindstrøm Hotel does not pass through the Lærdal Tunnel.

Alternative Travel Routes

  1. Drive through the tunnel during daytime
The simplest solution: plan your journey between 06:00 and 18:00.

  2. Aurlandsfjellet National Tourist Route
A spectacular mountain road connecting Aurland and Lærdal.

  3. Rv. 52 via Hemsedal
A reliable year-round alternative if you are travelling between east and west during the night.

  4. Ferries and local transport
Additional ferry or boat services may be available at certain times. Check updated information at www.175.no before you travel.
